The most famous and longest-running Philippine Television reality show is Eat Bulaga. It was telecasted by GM Network and produced by TAPE( Television And Production Exponents). It started on 30th July 1979. The shooting of Eat Bulaga was done by APT Studios in Rizal. It was broadcasted in the whole world through GMA Pinoy TV and online on YouTube except the BOOM segment due to copyright problems. The 40th anniversary of Eat Bulaga will be celebrated on July 30, 2019. Eat Bulaga was the first Philippine show that was broadcasted in the other country Indonesia through the franchise Eat Bulaga! Indonesia.

Eat Bulaga has a long broadcast history. It was first broadcasted by RPN (Radio Philippine Network) from 1979 to 1989. Later it was telecasted under the ownership of ABS-CBN Network from 1989 to 1995. This show after these six years was moved to GMA Network in 1996 and is running under GMA Network up till now.

RPN was owned by Romy Jalosjos. He gave the idea of creating a reality show. For hosting the show Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon were chosen due to their humor loving nature. De Leon gave the title Eat Bulaga to the show in which Eat refers to the “lunchtime” and Bulaga refer “to surprise”. The slogan “Hangga’t May Bata, May Eat Bulaga! was given to the show by de Leon due to the children’s game Peekaboo.

This slogan literally means As Long As There Are Children, There Will Be Eat Bulaga!. Its first episode was premiered on 20th July 1979. It was on the stake of being canceled due to the elevating competition with the famous and most running reality show Student Canteen and lack of advertisements. The crew of the show was not paid with their salaries for six months. It slowly gained fame in 1980 and was broadcasted in the entire nation by a local satellite that was launched in 1982.

The theme song of the show started with Mula Aparri hanggang Jolo was composed and launched on 18th May 1982. Vincent Dy Buncio and Pancho Opus were the writers of the song. Vic Sotto was the composer of the song and tune was arranged by Homer Flores. Eat Bulaga beat Student Canteen after two running years and became a permanent show of TVJ. At last Eat Bulaga left the main telecast city on December 2nd, 1987 and joined the neighboring Celebrity Sports Plaza on the 3rd of December 1987. On February 18, 1989, the show again started on its new network ABS-CBN Pinoy Tambayan at Studio 1 of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Centre. In 1995 Eat Bulaga moved to GMA Network.

It moved back to Celebrity Sports Plaza in 1994 to be prepared for telecast in 1995 on GMA Network. Celebrity Sports Plaza telecasted it temporarily till September 1995. In 1999 the Eat Bulaga was the first heavily earning show of the Philippine television. In January 2001 Eat Bulaga premiered its special episode at SM City North EDSA at 7.30 pm on Saturday that was a blockbuster episode of the show’s history. The show earned a lot from this episode rating. In April 2002 Eat Bulaga dropped the popularity of the show SexBomb Dancers followed by MTB. In 2003 Tito Sitto again joined the show. The former broadcasting network ABS-CBN on Eat Bulaga also honored the show on its 50th anniversary.

In Asian Television Awards that took place in Singapore this show won the Best Entertainment reality show on 1st of December 2005. In 2006 SexBomb Dancer show was closed due to the argument fight between the SexBomb girls and producers. The first regional version of Eat Bulaga was started in November 2007 under the title Eat Na Ta!. Eat Bulaga celebrated its 30th anniversary on July 30, 2009, by helping the poor and hardworking 30 students in order to say thanks to the public for their support.

Eat Bulaga had gone through many more events till now. On the 8th of December 2018 the show finally moved to the APT Studios in Rizal. Before this migration the Eat Bulaga organized a concert on October 24, 2015 to thank those who supported and loved their show under the name Benefit Concert in Philippine Arena. The purpose of this concert was to raise the funds for building libraries in schools across the country.

The running segments of the show include Shoutout in which people praise their friends and families on national television. Eat Bulaga! Behind the scene is also a segment in which the activities of the crew and cast behind the camera were shown. BOOM! Is a quiz segment in which questions related to general knowledge were asked from the audience. Prizes all way is a segment in honor of Christmas in which the host chose the person of his choice from the audience and he was given a lot of prizes including grocery and electrical devices.

Zoombrangy: Zombabait Ninyo, Thank You! is a show in which two groups of people from the audience compete and danced on Christmas songs. Many more such segments of the show entertained the audience throughout its running time and also helped those who are poor supported the show.
